Our story

The name Akanni, meaning "first-born" or "first one" in Yoruba, embodies our vision of bringing African artistry to the forefront. Akanni offers beautifully crafted ceramics and homeware decor from different regions of Africa.

We proudly collaborate with independent designers and skilled artisans to blend traditional techniques with contemporary designs, creating high quality handmade pieces. We prioritise sustainability by responsibly sourcing materials and embracing sustainable practices. By working directly with artisans, we ensure that each product is crafted with care and contributes to local economies.

Our products are more than just decor, they are a celebration of culture, a connection to history, and a piece of art that infuses warmth and character into any space. We invite people from around the world to experience the beauty of African artistry, creating a connection between tradition and contemporary living.

Our founder

Princess, a British Nigerian, has spent the past few years exploring the beauty and diversity of Africa. During her travels, she discovered the incredible artistry and craftsmanship across the continent. As she documented her journey, her online community started asking to purchase the items she would find. This organic interaction revealed a gap in the market, inspiring her to create AKANNI. Through the brand, she aims to share the rich cultural heritage of African countries with a global audience.
